Fade Away

She lived in a comic strip where no one ever laughed,

trapped within a writer’s pen who struggled with his craft.

Anxiously she rued each morning, inked into a cage.

One day she wished the artist would erase her from the page.

He danced under five long fingers dangling to the whims

of his master’s constant tugging on his wooden limbs.

Life became one long performance tangled up in strings.

One day he wished to cut the cords, the loneliness they bring...

And fade away, precious few will miss you past today.

When you’re certain your life has been given,

to someone who should not hold the reigns-

                         then fade away.

Until one day he found himself retired from his stint.

Rapped up in the funny page, he eyed her in the print.

Alone as two they introduced their lonely lives, their dreams.

Tucked in storage, smiling, they embarked upon their scheme…

To fade away, precious few will miss you past today.

Fade away, precious few will miss you past today.  Fade Away.
