Human Beings
You don’t have to say you’re sorry,
I know it’s true.
It’s scrawled across those blood shot eyes
that sink into you.
My dear you’re looking weary,
darkness must be steering you.
If I had a nickel for each tear that you’ve shed,
I’d purchase you the cleanest conscience,
I’d clear up your head.
We’re all so far from blameless,
Don’t you dare go let this game mess with you.
Point out one who claims to be perfect,
I’ll point out one who knows how to lie.
We’re all just human beings,
and now and then we step out of line.
Life can be a crazy gig that gets out of hand.
You find yourself embracing things
for which you’ll be damned.
I don’t know why we do it,
but man I’ve stepped right through it too.
We all serve our sentences somewhere in our minds,
fretting over deeds misdone from moments behind.
Consider this a pardon in “I still love you” jargon. I do.
Point out one who aims to be perfect,
I’ll point out one who is wasting his time.
We’re all just human beings,
and now and then we step out of line.
You don’t have to say you’re sorry,
I know it’s true.
It’s scrawled across those blood shot eyes
that sink into you.
My dear you’re looking weary,
darkness must be steering you.
Point out one who claims to be perfect,
I’ll point out one who knows how to lie.
We’re all just human beings,
and now and then we step out of line.
