Thick Skin

Thick skin is a virtue

   when all it seems they want to do is hurt you.

Thick skin is a virtue

   when they run you over with a truck.

So if I may alert you,

   when all them meanies plot to disconcert you,

Thick skin is a virtue.

   Don’t you ever, ever let them see you bleed. 

Thick skin is essential

   if you’re ever gonna reach your true potential.

Thick skin is essential

   when the world around you seems to run amuck.

My friend, it’s eventual,

   some of them are jealous and so vengeful.

Thick skin is essential,  

   don’t you ever, ever let them see you bleed.

     Well I really wish that I could diagnose

        their need to make you feel so lonely.

     But one thing I’ve learned is

        some folks ain’t really worth the time.
