Since 2000, The Dime Store Poets have made their home in South Austin, Texas. Their music is as varied as the eclectic town that surrounds them. Incorporating jazz, swing, bluegrass, opera, and pop, the Poets pound out a style that is unique and cohesive.
The band has released two studio albums in the past two years. The first (self-titled) CD was released in December 2002, and Any Color that you Please has been on sale since March 2004. A third album, entitled Electric Rhymes (produced by Gurf Morlix), hit the airwaves in August 2005. Songs from the first two CDs are featured as part of the permanent musical rotation at Austin's Bergstrom International Airport. The band has appeared live on the radio several times, including a spot during KGSR's SXSW coverage from The Four Seasons, and a spot on The Kevin and Kevin Morning Show. In 2004, the band visited John Aielli on KUT's Eklektikos . Dave Obermann has also hosted the Poets twice on KUT's Folkways program.
The Dime Store Poets continue to carve out their niche with each southside performance. Armed with their swinging eclectic bag of musical fun, the band regularly sets it up and tears it down at such hallowed establishments as The Saxon Pub, Threadgill's World Headquarters, Artz Rib House, and Zax Pints and Plates. Keep an eye on the calendar, and the band will see you there soon.
